BEDFORD BEATS THE RAIN; HERSH BEATS THE FIELD

With rain all around the area, including a short rain delay at the track, Bedford completed another program Friday.  Among the happiest racers were Clinton Hersh and Darian Ritchey who each took their first ever Bedford wins in Limited and Pure Stock events.

.   In other  action, Brian Weyant Jr scored the Semi Late win,  Mike Altobelli took the EMod win and Javid Fairall  grabbed the 4 Cylinder finale.

Clinton Hersh, who has spent  time  in both Limited  and Late Model action at the track brought his Limited for the show and aced the field.  He grabbed the lead at the start and ran off from the field over the first few laps.    Although slowed by a few early cautions he zoomed away from the field on each restart.  Read more »

DANNER AND LEE HIGHLIGHT BEDFORD FRIDAY ACTION

The wingless USAC sprint cars invaded the Bedford Speedway Friday night and headlined the exciting racing program.  Briggs Danner  took the wingless event while Kyle Lee  took the Super Late Model headliner.  In other action, Greg Hainsey, Chubby Childers and Shawn Smith won the Semi Late, Pure Stock and 4 Cylinder events.

BEDFORD SPEEDWAY OPENS TO FIRST TIME WINNERS

Finally, the weather broke into a pretty spring day and the Bedford Speedway got in the opening event of the 2024 season Sunday.  Five happy winners greeted the opener, with four of them taking their first ever Bedford wins.

Jakob Piper ran the Bedford race of his career, becoming the 157th Late Model winner at the historic track, before former Limited driver Spike Moore scored his first ever EMod win, Chubby Childers took his first ever Pure Stock win and Devon Iser won his first ever Bedford event in the 4 Cylinder closer.  Semi Late winner Rick Potter was the only repeat winner in the program. SHOEMAKER AND DENEEN SHARE SPOTLIGHT AT BEDFORD SEASON ENDER

The 2023 season finally ended Sunday night with the rain delayed portion of the 6th annual Keystone Cup festivities.  Four happy feature winners emerged in the program, including one first time winner in the event which had originally been scheduled as part of the Friday action.

Shawn Shoemaker rallied late to take the Limited event, while Semi Late rookie Kyle Deneen scored his first ever win in that class.  Other winners were Kyle Beckett in the Pure Stock event before Shawn Smith completed the season with the 4 Cylinder conquest. Read more »

KYLE HARDY BAGS BEDFORD BIG BUCKS

In the face of dire weather forecasts and cool fall temperature, the annual Bedford Keystone Cup event went off as scheduled Saturday night and Kyle Hady rose to the occasion and took home the big prize. The win in the 60 lap finale was the first of Hardy’s Bedford career as he became the 156th Late Model winner at the historic track.  Hardy bagged $23,000 for the win.

In opposition to first time winner Hardy, Michael Altobelli cruised to yet another Emod win to close out the chilly night of racing. Read more »

ZEIGLER WINS FIRST EVER EMOD RACE AT BEDFORD

Late Model star Mason Zeigler jumped into an Emod to participate in the Troutman memorial  fallfest weekend at Bedford and came away with a big win Friday night.  For Zeigler, it was his second big Bedford win in a row as he was also the victor in the Late Model Labor Day 55 in the track’s previous program.   The win in the 30 lapper was worth  $4000 for the happy winner.  In the companion event, Rick Potter emerged from an early race dogfight to score the 20 lap Semi Late victory.

Pre race favorites Ethan Dodson and Kyle Strickler led the 25 cars to the green flag and it was Dodson with the early lead.  Strickler was in hot pursuit until he brushed the wall in turn one on lap four, losing several spots.  Zeigler was the benefactor of Strickler;s miscue as he jumped into second and took off after Dodson. CORBIN AND TROUTMAN OPEN BEDFORD FALLFEST WITH WINS

The 2023 edition of Bedford Speedway fallfest, designated the DJ Troutman memorial, opened Thursday with two feature events and open practice for anyone else who desired.  Josh Corbin capped off his excellent season in the PT Cruiser with a rousing win in the 4 Cylinder feature while Drake Troutman claimed the Crate EMod win, while almost 30 drivers in every other Bedford division took part in practice sessions.

2023 point titlist Josh Corbin put a period on his great season with the rousing 4 Cylinder win.  He started  on the front row in the pill draw event and took the lead at the start.    He led the distance but had to hang on as Wayne Brenize and Shawn Smith arrived from deep in the pack as the event moved past halfway. FOUR WINNERS CLOSE BEDFORD POINT SEASON

The regular season point races ended Sunday at Bedford and produced four happy winners and four new champions.   Devin Weyandt claimed the 2023 Limited championship with a win as did Charlie Clise in the Pure Stocks.   Bradlee Means took his first ever Semi Late feature win while Brian Weyandt Jr claimed that title.  Colin Welsh took the 4 Cylinder win while Josh Corbin took that title in the famous PT Cruiser.

Devin Weyandt made a statement of strength in the Limited 25 lapper.   He rushed from his third row starting position to blow by early leader Tom Decker III on lap three and never looked back. Read more »

ZEIGLER TAKES BEDFORD LABOR DAY 55

The Bedford 2023 point season closed Friday with the annual Labor Day weekend 55 lapper, this year sanctioned by the ULMS series, and Mason Zeigler rose to the occasion  by taking the big win.  It was the second 2023 win  at Bedford for Zeigler as he became the first repeat winner if the season at the track in the thirteenth event.   In the companion EMod event, Mike Altobelli Jr came from deep in the field to take another win to close the evening.

Alex Ferree was the pole sitter in the famous Cochran car and he burst into the lead at the start.  Ferree blew out to a serious lead in the first few laps, but Coleby Frue, after falling back a bit early on, began to make a challenge as the pair negotiated heavy lapped traffic by lap 12. Frye closed noticeably after about lap 20, bringing Mason Zeigler and Matt Cosner with him. Read more »

WEYANDT AND ALTOBELLI CRUISE AT BEDFORD

It was extra distances for everyone Friday at Bedford in the event billed as the Muss Weyant 100 unfolded.  Brian Weyandt Jr rallied late to take the 30 lap Semi Late event, a move which solidified his point lead in the class with only one more point race to go.  Mike Altobelli Jr was in regular form as he cruised to the EMod win in that 25 lapper.  Jason Haggerty fought off serious challenges the whole distance to score the 25 lap Pure Stock victory before Wayne Brenize closed the evening with another 4 Cylinder win.

The Semi Late event started off a bit rough as several cars piled up at the green, eliminating  recent winner Dave Brown.  On the next try, Bill Replogle shot into the lead but he was quickly chased down by John Miller.  After several laps of side by side racing, Miller edged by for the lead on lap 7.    Replogle did not surrender and was all over Miller for the next few laps until Rick Potter joined in and took second.
